James Lawrence attempts 50 TRIATHLONS, 50 STATES, 50 DAYS

James Lawrence - Iron CowboyYoung Living brand ambassador James Lawrence, a.k.a. the Iron Cowboy, is setting out to do what most call impossible: 50 full-distance triathlons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days. Each triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run—that’s more than 140 miles per day!

Why would anyone take on such a goal? James is interested in more than just athletic competition—he also wants to fight what he calls the “massive epidemic” of obesity. By undertaking such a difficult physical challenge, James wants to inspire people to make positive and healthy changes in their lifestyles, promote nutritious food choices, and demonstrate that human beings are capable of doing hard things.

He begins his 50-50-50 journey next Saturday, June 6, in Kauai, Hawaii, and is inviting fans to join him for the last 5K of each race. His first few stops will be:

  • Anchorage, AK: Sunday, June 7
  • Lake Stevens, WA: Monday, June 8
  • Portland, OR: Tuesday, June 9
  • Santa Cruz, CA: Wednesday, June 10
  • Las Vegas, NV: Thursday, June 11
  • Flagstaff, AZ: Friday, June 12

I had the honor of meeting James (second from right) when he presented at the Young Living Convention 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He was in such great shape I never would have guessed that his wife signed him up for this first marathon in Salt Lake City as a way to force him to get into shape. I’m sure she didn’t have any idea what she was starting!

James credits his success to believing in his ability to achieve and to his favorite Young Living products. He uses Ortho Ease and Ortho Sport massage oil blends after working out to remove he lactic acid buildup from the muscles which increases recovery time.  He loves the Slique Bars and Wolfberry Crisp Bars because they’re nutrient dense but not heavy to digest while on the run. This is important for James not only as a marathon runner but because he used to suffer from chronic bronchitis and was told by doctors that he’d never be an athlete. Guess he proved them wrong!
